Infertility does not exclusively affect women. Millions of men worldwide suffer from infertility. In arproximately 40% of all couples with infertility there, is a male component. Male infertility can vary from obstructive disorders to sperm production.
The most common cause of male infertility is a low sperm count (oligospermia and azoospermia). In some cases, genetic factors may play a role. Other environmental factors may also play a role such as excessive alcohol consumption, cigarette or cannabis smoking, stress and excessive heat.
The most common treatments are Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). A complete evaluation includes a medical history, physical exam and a hormonal panel. Other diagnostic tests and treatments may also apply.
